Well, to start off with a quote suits the exact motive of me writing this first post of 2014. 2014 so far, has been a year of initiations. I can say for sure that there are lots of things that I have initiated this year; a few of them were reinstituted. I am feeling happy as of now, because I now know that things do work. Things work when we stop speculating and start working – things will work. And when things work, it gives an immense pleasure that rises from the inside, which is not at the mercy of any outsider to approve.
Sitting on the sea shore, looking at the fleet of ships hovering on the waves and guessing which ship will make it to the destination and which one will be quaffed by the ocean en route, is the most foolish yet easiest job in the world. Most around us keep busy doing that. However, only real men (What do you mean? Big man? Me? Nuh! Not yet…) can take the stride towards having a ship of his own and sailing it across the grumpy ocean. Even if you are not sure about reaching the destination, getting your first ship and then building a fleet will probably give you the reason to sail for – time and again.
But then, the question is whom are you sailing for? Whom are you doing this for? Your family, friends and your close ones, of course! May be to have a better future; to get out of the droning syndrome; to beat the inflation and probably leave behind a legacy for the next generation.
And all these would not just happen to you – you got to hit the road yourself, walk on it yourself, and make it happen yourself. You need to get it yourself. Yourself is the keyword. The interesting thing that you need to understand and notice here is that even if (you think) you are doing it for everyone else apart from thyself, it is you who has to walk the mile.
Everyone else will not be able to appreciate how you are going to do it for them, or even for your own. This is just because their views and yours do not match – probably because they cannot see what you can – and most undoubtedly because their dreams are not as big as yours are!
So, when you show them what you do, or when you ask for their hand, they will not be interested. They will not even be ready to share the responsibility or the ‘burden.’ They may not even give you the scrawniest sympathy or support. On top of that, most of them will put you down for getting involved in anything like this (Like what? Like that something, that they do not understand; they have never done or even thought of doing something like this, and do not have the mettle to actually try it out). They will never come a step forward and hold your hand; nor will they give you any moral backing. Instead, they will negate everything that you say or do.
These are the difficult people I am talking about. Well, it will be much easy for anyone to say, “Just ignore them, and move on.” But how do you do that, in reality? These are the people with whom you spend your days and your nights; these are the people with whom you share the morning newspaper, the TV remote, the cricket pitch, the office lunch, the jokes on WhatsApp and the cigarettes near the bakery!
You cannot move without them. They are constantly holding you back. But yet, you need to move on. How do you do that? How do you deal with these people around you, without whom you are no one? These are the people who define you. These are the people who you care for, no matter what they think of you!
This is what I want to know.
And on the second thought, if you are not able to deal with these ordinary people you know so closely, how do you think you will take on the unknown, covert and ever stranger world?
My search for an answer to this question is still on!
