A lot has happened in the recent past. Personally, I had to go through a lot. Many of which would remain untold, I know; but are equally important in life and the residual memories of this time would never ever leave me.
I had gone home – after 4 years 6 months and 7 days! Agartala, as I saw it this time, is changed a lot. The last time I saw it, it was like an old corner town, but not anymore. With the insertion of railway tracks in the bigger part of the state, the whole aura has changed. There are visible alterations all over the capital; but people living there all this while may not just feel it. Big buildings, eating joints, hotels and malls have come up. Obviously those would not challenge anything that I see here in Bangalore (this was a bit of disappointment, as I was expecting a lot from the stories I heard, before landing there), but they are quite mentionable on their own.
I went to my village too, this time - East Jalefa, in Sabroom. May be after half a dozen years or more! The signs of change were visible there too; however, in lesser magnitude. But those old huts that I left there were still there – many of them. As I was roaming around my house and the neighborhood, I found that everything has shrunk, somehow! The big house that we used to live in, seemed not so big this time. The huge mango tree at the start of our house campus has somehow grown smaller. The pond of ours, even though my family said was widened a couple of years ago, seemed dried up. I know why. The images of all these were kept deep in my mind and were enlarged, as I grew older.
I happened to visit my wife’s house, in Sabroom. Had the privilege to lie down on her bed, in her room, near her study table. It was so much nostalgic and I felt like crying. Once, long ago, when I went to her house, she was in school. I took bath, had lunch and lied down on her bed. When I woke up, I found that she was back from school and was sitting on the corner of the bed, with her head on my feet, bending downwards. I do not know why she did that and why that moment, is still one of the bests that I had in my life is. That was heavenly – more so, at that point in time. Time has passed since; and in the crowded life that we lead today, those moments of love seem to have gone absconding!
Anyways, she was not there this time. And I had to leave her house sooner that I planned!
Back to Bangalore, to the speedy life, to office, smoke, crowd and noisy roads! Big city, big expectations to meet, big races to win, big promises to make and big and long road ahead! Somehow, the city of dreams (which I had dreamt years ago) is not satisfying my soul. These days, I live in unknown frights, unanswered questions, untold wants and utter surprises.
Let’s see how the coming days shape out to be…
